About Gloss Booklets

Gloss booklets feature a bright, reflective coated surface that enhances color saturation, sharpens image detail, and gives your printed piece a polished, professional appearance. The gloss coating - typically an AQ (aqueous) finish applied inline after printing - makes photographs pop, bold colors appear richer, and the overall piece feel premium in the reader's hand.

Available with saddle-stitch, perfect binding, or wire-o binding, gloss booklets are the preferred format for marketing materials, product lookbooks, trade show handouts, and any publication where strong visual impact is the priority.

Frequently Asked Questions - Gloss Booklets

What makes gloss booklets different from standard or uncoated booklets?

Gloss booklets are printed on coated paper stock and finished with a bright, reflective gloss coating - typically an aqueous (AQ) coating applied inline immediately after printing. This coating seals the ink, enhances color saturation, sharpens image detail, and gives the printed surface a polished, premium appearance. Compared to uncoated booklets, gloss printing produces noticeably richer colors, deeper blacks, and crisper photographs. The coated surface also resists fingerprints and normal wear better than uncoated stock, making gloss booklets ideal for trade show distribution, direct mail campaigns, and high-traffic marketing environments. If your booklet contains photography, bold brand colors, or lifestyle imagery, gloss is the recommended finish.

What binding styles are available for gloss booklets?

Gloss booklets are available in three binding styles. Saddle-stitch is the most economical option, using two wire staples through the spine fold, and is ideal for booklets with 8 to 64 pages. Perfect binding uses a durable adhesive to create a flat, printable square spine and is suited to publications with 30 to 400 pages. Wire-O binding uses a double-loop metal wire coil that allows the booklet to open completely flat - 360 degrees - making it a popular choice for presentations, workbooks, and desk reference materials. Each binding style has different production timelines and pricing, so choosing the right one depends on your page count, intended use, and budget.

What cover finish options are available for gloss booklets?

Five cover finish options are available. AQ Gloss Coat is a water-based gloss coating applied inline after printing - it enhances sheen, resists fingerprints, and is the most cost-effective gloss finish. Gloss Laminate is a thick plastic film bonded to the cover for maximum shine, exceptional durability, and tear resistance - the best choice for heavily distributed marketing materials. Matte Laminate provides a smooth, non-reflective film finish with an upscale appearance and rich color depth without any glare - popular for luxury and lifestyle brands. UV Spot Coat applies a high-gloss coating selectively to specific design elements such as a logo or product image over a matte base, creating a dramatic contrast effect. Soft-Touch Laminate adds a velvety, tactile finish preferred by high-end fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands that want a distinctive premium feel.

What page counts and sizes are available?

Page count ranges depend on the binding style selected. Saddle-stitch gloss booklets are available from 8 to 64 pages in multiples of 4. Perfect-bound gloss booklets are available from 30 to 400 pages. Wire-O gloss booklets are available across a range of page counts - contact our team for specific Wire-O page count pricing. Standard finished sizes include 5.5" x 8.5", 8.5" x 11", and 8.5" x 5.5" landscape. Custom sizes are available on request. All page count and bleed requirements are the same as standard saddle-stitch and perfect-bound booklets - your file must include 0.125" bleed on all sides, use CMYK color mode, and be submitted at 300 DPI minimum resolution.

What paper stocks are used for gloss booklets?

Gloss booklet covers are printed on 80lb or 100lb Gloss Cover stock. Interior pages are available in 80lb Gloss Text for standard photo-heavy applications or 100lb Gloss Text for heavier, more substantial interior pages with richer color output. Matte Text stocks are also available as interior options if you want a gloss cover with a softer, non-reflective interior - a combination preferred by brands that want visual impact on the cover but reduced glare on text-heavy interior pages. Our pre-press team can recommend the right combination based on your content mix and distribution requirements.

How long does production take for gloss booklets?

Production time varies by binding style. Saddle-stitch gloss booklets are produced in 3 to 5 business days from file approval. Perfect-bound gloss booklets require 5 to 7 business days due to the additional binding and curing steps involved. Wire-O binding turnaround is similar to saddle-stitch. Rush production is available for all binding styles - contact our team before ordering if you have a hard deadline. All turnaround times begin from the point of file approval and do not include shipping transit time.
