Premium opaque uncoated booklets are printed on a thick, bright-white uncoated stock that delivers a refined, natural feel distinctly different from gloss or matte coated papers. The uncoated surface eliminates glare entirely, making text exceptionally easy to read under any lighting condition - ideal for publications where readability and a professional, understated appearance are the priority.
Available on 60lb or 70lb premium opaque stock, these booklets are the preferred choice for law firms, financial advisors, healthcare providers, real estate professionals, and academic institutions that want a polished publication without the reflective shine of coated paper.

Premium opaque uncoated paper is a thick, bright-white paper stock that contains no surface coating - no gloss, no matte film, and no aqueous finish. The absence of any coating means the paper surface is completely natural and matte, with zero glare under any lighting condition. The term "opaque" refers to the paper's high opacity rating - it resists ink show-through from the opposite side even at heavier ink coverage, which is especially important in double-sided booklets with dense text or solid color backgrounds. Compared to standard uncoated bond paper, premium opaque stock is noticeably brighter, heavier, and more substantial in hand. It is the preferred choice for law firms, financial institutions, healthcare providers, academic publishers, and real estate professionals who want a polished, authoritative publication without the reflective shine associated with gloss or coated papers.
Premium opaque uncoated booklets are available on 60lb and 70lb premium opaque uncoated stock. The 60lb weight is the standard choice for most professional publications - it provides an excellent balance of opacity, printability, and cost. The 70lb weight is heavier and more substantial, preferred for publications that will be used repeatedly over time or that need to project a higher level of quality. Both weights accept pen, pencil, and highlighter easily, making them suitable for workbooks, forms, and annotated documents. Contact our team if you are unsure which weight is right for your project and we can recommend the best option based on your page count, content type, and intended audience.
Premium opaque uncoated booklets are available in page counts from 8 to 52 pages. Like all saddle-stitch booklets, the total page count must be a multiple of 4. If your content does not fill a multiple of 4, add blank pages to reach the next available count. Standard finished sizes are 5.5" x 8.5" and 8.5" x 11". Custom sizes are available on request - contact our team with your dimensions for a quote. The 52-page maximum reflects the practical limits of saddle-stitching on uncoated stock - for thicker publications on uncoated paper, perfect binding is recommended and available through our Bound Books product.
Yes - and this is an important consideration when designing for uncoated paper. Uncoated stock absorbs more ink than coated paper because there is no barrier between the ink and the paper fibers. As a result, colors appear slightly softer, more muted, and less saturated compared to the same artwork printed on gloss or matte coated stock. Blacks may appear slightly less deep and photographs may look less crisp. This is a natural characteristic of uncoated printing, not a print quality issue. To compensate, experienced designers often boost saturation and contrast slightly when preparing files destined for uncoated stock. Always use CMYK color mode and proof your file on screen before submitting. If you are concerned about how your colors will translate, contact our pre-press team for guidance before finalizing your artwork.
File setup requirements are the same as for all saddle-stitch booklets. Submit a single PDF with all pages in sequential reading order - not as printer spreads. Set your document to the finished trim size and add 0.125" bleed on all four sides. Keep all text, logos, and critical design elements at least 0.125" from all trim edges. Use CMYK color mode throughout and export at a minimum of 300 DPI. Total page count must be a multiple of 4. Because colors appear slightly softer on uncoated stock, consider adding a small boost to saturation and contrast in your design before exporting your final PDF. Our pre-press team reviews every file before printing and will contact you if we identify any issues that could affect your print quality.
Premium opaque uncoated booklets are most commonly ordered by organizations and professionals in industries where credibility, readability, and a refined, non-flashy appearance are priorities. Law firms use them for client proposals and legal summaries. Financial advisors and investment firms use them for quarterly reports, fund prospectuses, and client presentations. Healthcare organizations use them for patient education materials and clinical guidelines. Real estate agencies use them for property portfolios and buyer guides. Academic institutions use them for course materials, syllabi, and research publications. The uncoated surface is also specifically preferred for workbooks, annotated guides, and any publication where readers will be writing on the pages.
