What is a 9x12 presentation folder and how is it made?

What is the difference between 4/0 and 4/4 printing?

4/0 means full-color printing on the outside of the folder only - the interior panels remain unprinted white. This is the standard and most economical configuration and works well when the inside will primarily be used to hold documents. 4/4 means full-color printing on both the outside and the interior panels. Printing the inside gives you additional space to add brand messaging, a company overview, service summaries, or contact details. When a client opens your folder, every surface communicates your brand rather than leaving blank white panels. If you select 4/4, supply your inside artwork as a separate file following the same bleed and safe-zone specifications as the outside.

How do I set up my artwork file for a 9x12 presentation folder?

Presentation folders are printed flat as one large sheet and then scored, die-cut, and folded. Your artwork file must be built at the full flat die-line size - laying out the front cover, back cover, and interior pockets as a single flat layout rather than as separate pages. Include 0.125 inches of bleed on all outer edges. Any background color or image that extends to a trim or fold edge must continue into the bleed area to prevent white edges appearing after die-cutting. Keep all text and logos at least 0.125 inches from trim edges and score lines. Request a die-line template from our prepress team before starting your layout. What color mode should my file be in?

All files submitted for presentation folder printing must be in CMYK color mode. CMYK is the color model used by commercial printing presses. Files submitted in RGB will produce color shifts when converted to CMYK during prepress processing, resulting in colors that look noticeably duller or different from what you see on your monitor. Convert your entire document to CMYK before submitting and build all brand colors using CMYK values rather than Pantone or RGB references. What image resolution do I need?

All images and photos placed in your folder artwork must be at least 300 DPI at the final print size. Images pulled from websites or screenshots are typically only 72 to 96 DPI and will appear blurry or pixelated in the finished print even if they look sharp on screen. Always use original high-resolution photography, properly licensed print-ready stock images, or vector graphics. Vector graphics in AI or EPS format are ideal for logos, icons, and typographic elements because they scale to any size without any loss of quality.
